    Description

Antique Ceramica de Fajalauza Spanish Blue and White Pitcher 5 3/4" Tall Could be 18th Century.   With the research I've done, this pitcher looks like it was made in an area of Granada, Spain, called Albaicin during the 18th century.  These pottery workshops began producing pottery with a white, tin glaze that were decorated with plant motifs specifically pomegranates in blue or green glazes around 1517.   They are called ceramica de Fajalauza, denoting the location in the Alabaicin.  By the early 1900's industrialization had set in, and the style changed completely.  It is not signed, but it does appear to be handmade and hand painted.  It has 3 flowers on it---2 look like sunflowers and the third looks like a pomegranate.  It has 2 small chips at the rim on one side and another small chip at the spout.  It is a lovely, small piece and has the look of being very old and primitive.  I find it very charming.  If anyone collects blue and white pieces, it would be a nice addition.  I have owned it about 20 years.
    It is 5 3/4" tall X 4 1/8" X 3 1/4" and weighs almost 1 lb.
